As of Monday, our application ot the Canada Media Fund was sent and is now out of our hands. For those who missed it, the funding we requested was to work on our Unreal detective prototype codenamed "BloodyCoat" (though it sounds like we'll be changing it to RedCoat). There were some in-progress screenshots in our last post.
It takes between two and three months to hear back about funding, so we are going to be focusing primarily on refining our designs over the next little bit so that whether we get the funding or need to apply again, we're ready to go.
In the meantime, we want to spend our time on some smaller releases to help build interest and to give people something to do. Ideally, it'll also help us bear out our ideas concerning our protagonist, her cybernetics, and the world she inhabits.
So we are going to be producing a small series of text-adventure shorts tentatively titled the "Blue Preludes". We developed the prototype for these games during the 2020 Toronto Game Jam.
During these preludes, Elizabeth is still working as a sex worker in Toronto during her 20s. The text-adventures will cover her interactions with clients, how her cybernetics influence the way she sees and understands the people and world around her, and her meetings with characters who will eventually be main features of the main game.
I ran a couple playtests of parts of the initial scene to get feedback on our primary mechanic: Elizabeth's augmented ability to read people those around her.
Hopefully I'll have more to playtest soon. If you're interested in being involved in future playtests, make sure to join our Discord and get in contact with me.
In the meantime, I have a lot of writing to do.
Now that the CMF application is off my plate, I'm also finishing the final touches on some other projects I had to put on hold. One is a fantasy novella I have been working on for quite a while that is finally in the last stages of editing. I'll keep you updated as soon as there's more to say :)
Until next time. Farewell!
